 1: Uprooted Naomi Novick [Kindle]

I have had this on my kindle for a while now, but only just got round to reading it on a friend's recommendation - and I am so glad I did! It was absolutely brilliant - by the end I couldn't put it down. The world, the characters and the magic all work brilliantly together, and the plot was so good. The only downside is there isn't any more of this world to read. First book I finished in the year, and already a contender for the best book of the year.

2: The Remains of the Day Kazuo Ishiguro

This was my choice for the January book group discussion, and it proved to be quite popular - and also gave us a lot to talk about. I didn't know what to expect, but it was a very gentle tale, but with a bit of a sting in the tail. I enjoyed it though, as it was beautifully written.

3: The May Bride Susannah Dunn

Very good novel based on the life of Jane Seymour before she went to court, and her early years at court. What I found particularly good about this was the descriptions of home life, the chores, festivals etc, rather than the glamour of court. I have read other books by Dunn before, and they are always quite good for a different take on the court.
