Feb/Mar Books
Apr. 2nd, 2018 06:35 pmRunning two months together, as I completely forgot to do Feb's book, no idea why. Not a great number in anycase, as have been trying to catch up on other things
4: The Master of Ballantrae R.L. Stevenson
Book group choice for Feb, which I ended up missing. Didn't really enjoy this, the plot and characters were rather far-fetched, which I should have expected in what in essence, is a sensation novel. Too long-winded.
5: The Miniaturist Jessie Burton
March's book group choice. I saw the TV adaptation over Christmas, but, as expected, the book is a lot better, even though the TV adaptation was quite good. Very much liked the characters and writing style, and especially enjoyed the portrayal of domestic life in Golden-Age Amsterdam. Now I have to go and see the cabinet.
6: Company of Liars Karen Maitland
It took me a few attempts to get into this, but I am glad I persevered, as I quite enjoyed it by the end, even though I did get the twist before it was revealed, although I think you are supposed to do so.
7: Liars and Thieves Karen Maitland
Good short story to fill in a gap in the journey. It would have been nice to have something from the perspective of one of the other characters though, rather than keeping the same narrator.
