Looking at the shiny things
Sep. 26th, 2008 01:58 pmOn Monday Bryn and I went to see The Wonderful World of Weta at the Royal Armouries - an exhibition of arms and armour from the movies.
Although it is billed as Lord of the Rings, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Hellboy, Last Samurai and King Kong, there is very little of the last 3 (just one case each), and more than twice as much LOTR than LWW - which suited us just fine, but may not suit other people so much.
If you like LOTR/LWW I really do recommend you see this if you can (it is on until 16th November, and free) and I am thinking of going down to see it again. Although there information panels aren't huge, I didn't feel that exhibition lacked information/explanation - and in particular I liked the rationale behind the armour designs in the LOTR (the elves just have to be stylish ;)).
It isn't a huge exhibition, I suspect they could have filled the armouries with the amount of things they made for the films in question, but what there is has been very well chosen (and there are enough 'big' name pieces to please too - Sting, Sauron's helmet, the White Witch's wand etc)
This may be the only time there is an exhibition like this, so see it if you can.
