Being all cultured, like ;)
May. 7th, 2013 10:48 pmLast friday Rosie and I went to see Handel's Joshua at the Grand (I will cheerfully admit we only went because we had free tickets). Neither of us had seen opera before - and although it is an oratorio, does full staging make it an opera? We is confused ;)
Anyhow, we both really enjoyed it. The music, performances, and staging were excellent. I had read a mediocre review in the Metro the day before, but I have to say IO think the reviewer completely missed the point. I think my only complaint was that the chap singing Othriel was very high, and it made him seem not very war-hero-ey.
With the aid of a programme, we were able to follow what was going on, even if we couldn't make out all the words (and this is an English opera). I would certainly go again (especially if it was free)
