Heidelberg

Heidelberg was lovely. The markets were pretty, and it has a castle and a funicular. What more could you want?
I liked the cathedral a lot better than the one in Trier, but still didn't manage to get any inside photos. We spent the morning looking round the markets and the shops, and then in the afternoon we went up to the castle, and all the way up to the top of the funicular.
It was a really cold day again (lunch inside), and when we got to the top of the funicular there were patches of unmelted snow! As we also passed some patches of snow while we were on the coach, I think I can say I have now 'had snow' on a Christmas Market's holiday ;)
I really liked the castle, and would like to go back there in the summer - as the gardens would be worth seeing then. The area at the top of the funicular also looks like it would be nice for summer walks. We didn't linger up there as we were pushed for time, and it was so cold.
Again, there was a Christmas Pyramid right by the Cathedral:

The castle was great:

and the view even more so:

The funicular on the lower part of the route (to just above the castle) is very swish and modern (apologies for the dim photo):

and the funicular on the upper half of the route was not:

It was fun though, and when you got to the top, you were very high indeed:

Ï wish I could have got a better photo of the stations, as they were really pretty buildings.
