On the way home we went to Bletchley Park, which was wonderful as it was one of the places we had wanted to go to on the original trip.

We started off in the main house, with a welcome talk from the volunteers. It was staggering to find out that a place of such historic importance is entirely run by volunteers, and gets no formal government funding!

The talk was in the library, and it was a library to dream of (I had a nosey on the shelves, the very random collection had plenty of Girls' Own and Boys' Own fiction)

Just look at that fireplace, what a lovely reading space!

You could take photos in any part of the house that was open (they have to rent some of the space out for the income)  - and I took the chance to chance to photograph more ceilings (amongst other things) - can you believe that the government were able to take over the place as the family who owned it didn't want to live there! If I had a house like this you would have to pry me out with a crowbar!

The interior:

The exterior:

The cutest little Post Office you have ever seen:

The grounds were also beautiful:

Except for the important bits, of course:

Of course, the important bits were also the important bits. I didn't get to take my iPhone to see Colossus, as we didn't have time to get over to that bit of the site (it is a huge site), but we did see the Bombe

The statue of Turing is very unusual, but I liked it a lot:

It was fascinating to see all the enigma machines and how the decoding was done.

We also saw the memorial that the Queen has just unveiled:

I would love to go back here, as there is so much more to see.

That staircase... those columns.... the wood panelling... that is an incredibly gorgeous house. I know what you mean, if I owned it, I wouldn't leave!!
