Althorp and Blenheim

pandopBack at the beginning of August, Mum and I went on a coach holiday together. Finally I am getting round to posting some pictures.
This wasn't the holiday we had intended to go on, there weren't enough bookings on that one - and we ended up on a trip to Blenheim, Oxford and Cambridge, that turned out to be a blend of a couple of trips.
So, we didn't know that on the way to the hotel we were stopping off at Althorp. It was a nice surprise, the house is lovely, but it was a shame there weren't any gardens, as it was a glorious day.
We had lunch in the stables cafe, which was lovely, as they had kept the nameplates for the horses and the stalls and looseboxes and made the tables fit round them.
I did like the way these trees were planted - but that was pretty much it for gardens
I did take a walk around the lake, and saw the island and urn, and the temple they have built for Diana. Can't say I was impressed. The lake is tiny (and amusingly called the Round Oval Lake) and the modern temple struck me as incredibly tacky.
Tuesday we went to Blenheim, and again the weather was glorious. Blenheim is huge, you only see a fraction of it, but what a fraction, about the only thing that isn't gilded is the lock of Winston Churchill's hair!
Even though we were there all day, we didn't see anything like all the grounds (I would love to go back), but of what we did see, I liked the Water Terraces best:
