Holiday Post - Monday - Andorra-la-Vella

The first proper (non-travelling) day of the holiday was into the capital of Andorra, Andorra-la-Vella. As befits such a small country, it is a teeny capital, but very lovely.
The worst weather we had the whole holiday was on the monday morning - sort of mizzly (combination of 'low' cloud, and us being rather high), as you can see from this picture:

This is a view of the Esglesiade Sant Esteve, which is one of the oldest churches in Andorra. One of the side chapels dates back to the 11th Century. This was the first view we had of the Church:

Further round, it looked like this:

The Church was lovely on the inside, very plain, but with some stunning artwork above the altar, but I couldn't get a decent photo of that.
We tried to go and see the Casa la Vel, which is where the parliament sits, as it is the one of the oldest buildings in Andorra, but there was something going on that day, so the nearest we got was this (see the police, they were turning people away if they got nearer)

On the way there we passed this lovely fountain:

We didn't wander much further in the morning due to the weather, but we hit the shops (Andorra may no longer be cheap for electrical goods, but it is very cheep for booze!)
After lunch the weather improved, and we found this fantastic pillar:

While Andorra-la-Vella is a lovely little city, there isn't a whole lot to do there, particularly if the weather isn't nice, and most of the joy is in the scenery:

Some of the buildings in the city were stunning, and Mum definitely appreciated the lift between the car park and the main bit of the town, it would have been a fair hike otherwise!
