I managed to see 4 films this month!
The Mummy
Saw this on TV at the beginning of the month, presumably due to the 'Teracotta Warriors One' being on at the cinema. I had forgotten how 'not bad' it was. It was certainly an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours on a wet Saturday afternoon (and haven't we had too many of those). Good effects - but let down by some very dodgy acting - ah well, tis all fun ;)
Miss Potter
I recorded this when it was shown on BBC1 and watched it a week or so later (on another wet afternoon). I hadn't seen this before, and had heard very mixed reviews about Rene Zellweger. But I liked her (and Ewan McGregor) - and Emily Watson as Millie Warne was fantastic! I did love the animations of her drawings too, they didn't make the film too cheesy, which they could well have done. I am also very pleased that the happy ending was true.
Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day
I saw this at the cinema with my friend Lynn last week (she recommended it based on reading the book on holiday), and it was fantastic. I really do recommend this, and shall be getting both the book and DVD in due course. Fantastic costumes, great acting and a very funny film.
Oh, and Ciaran Hinds delivers a wonderful line about the construction of a gentleman's sock. Which had Lynn and me in hysterics. Just as well the cinema wasn't busy ...
In the Name of the King
This was a misguided choice based on the trailer on Virgin Media Film Flex. It did confirm it wasn't just the part in CSI:NY, Claire Forlani can't act. Not that anyone else in the film could (Burt Reynolds excepted). Strangely it actually had good armour - and that is all the good I can find. Don't bother.
