1: When searching on moviemail for '100 years of Japanese Cinema' I was rather amused to have '30 years of one man and his dog' suggested !

2: Seen in the staff bulletin this morning:

"Cutting edge" research from my favourite author pairing of the week:

Believe me there have been a lot to choose from today

Spudman: voice of the potato industry

With, as a close runner-up: Carrot Country

They should be on HIGNFY

Is it wrong to be amused that a book entitled 'Effective Time Management' is seriously overdue ...

So no, no matter what it says on your reading list, the Moscow Metro System isn't likely to be purchased by the library

Also, on a completely different topic, I am more than delighted that this series of books exists!

Someone in the DVD naming department of the Health and Safety Executive has an appalling sense of pun.

Some highlights of the collection include:

A matter of life and breath
 - Occupational asthma - the causes, the effects and how to prevent it

Rash Decisions
 - HSE's video on work related dermatitis  - its causes, effects and prevention

Get a Grip
 - Health and Safety at indoor climbing walls

Don't fall for it
- Working on fragile roofs in agriculture

Shock horror
 - The dangers of electrocution by overhead power lines

To cap it all
 - The capping of stranded wire ropes with polyester resin

A clean bill of health
 - Health and Safety in the Dry Cleaning Industry

Oh, and we also have the incomprehensible, and unexplained: Plan your slinging

Last night five News announced that it was 10 years since Tony Blair had entered downing street, and was now leaving for the first time.

Now, I know that am not the most avid news viewer, but I was under the impression we had let him out once or twice in the last 10 years....

Methinks they meant the last time

In other news, today I catalogued a thesis on bovine diarrhoea

If there is one thing that annoys me more than 'ISBN number', it is when I see that in a publisher's catalogue

Seen in the Farmers' Weekly Reader Offers Catalogue:

Beet Lifting through the ages: the beet campaign - 50 years of change

Edit: I have just realised this is a DVD, not a book. I am not sure if this makes it better or worse ...

In 2004 the Home Office produced the National re-offending action plan.

I guess by 2005 someone had realised how that sounded, and the report changed to: National reducing re-offending delivery plan

Friday was not a good day. Not only did I get confirmation about the lack of an interview (see below), but I spent far too long on the not-very-megabus. Oh, and I didn’t eat enough, or the right things, or take my tablets, so completely messed everything up.

I did get some feedback on the application though, so I can use that on the other 2 jobs I am going to apply for.

I have just had some really interesting cataloguing training, mostly centred around The Spectator - and how to catalogue some really old printed volumes (mostly they are old enough to be going into Special Collections when I am done with them) . We also found yet more oddities in the catalogue that need to be sorted out.

I know this isn't run-of-the-mill cataloguing, but it does confirm to me that this is the area I want to work in. I like solving the puzzle of how best to describe something so that people can find it, and use it  - and, well, I like things to be tidy.

So, I get to start next week by doing some fiendishly complicated cataloguing, and I am really looking forward to it.

Yesterday I was complimented by the evil bitch boss, which was most unexpected, and then today she told me about some training that would be really good for me.

I am amazed, normally she seems far more interested in undermining my career and confidence.

Well this week has been quite a good week, work wise, I have been able to do a lot of cataloguing, and I have learnt a lot of new things - thesis cataloguing, authority reacords, serials records, pseudonymns and diacritics!
Now I need to apply this enthusiasm to the module.

If my next evening duty is as quiet as it was last night I swear I am going to get my knitting out  - it really did not need 3 of us there. I still get my TOIL though, which is all I do it for.

Speaking of knitting, I have dropped a stitch while knitting this lunchtime, so if I am to have any hope of finishing this ball and having the join done before the SO gets here this evening I have to learn how to fix it - and fast! [profile] phonemonkey has kindly sent me a link to look at - so cross your fingers for me please!
If I can't fix it, then I will have to abandon it until Mum gets here next friday and get on with a bookmark instead - which I need to do anyway.
