Dear lady on the bus this morning,

if you are going to commit the fashion crime of wearing socks with sandals, please don't make it even worse by the inclusion of black socks with pink toes & heels

No love

me

1: When searching on moviemail for '100 years of Japanese Cinema' I was rather amused to have '30 years of one man and his dog' suggested !

2: Seen in the staff bulletin this morning:

"Cutting edge" research from my favourite author pairing of the week:

Sharp & McLaws (2001): Wound dressings for surgical sites

Found by one of my colleagues, as he was cataloguing the 11th ed. of the Chambers dictionary

Eclair

A cake long in length but short in duration

Believe me there have been a lot to choose from today

Spudman: voice of the potato industry

With, as a close runner-up: Carrot Country

They should be on HIGNFY

I am watching mindless tv, Traffic Cops to be precise. I was highly amused that the first item featured was the tasering of a suspected armed robber, by more conventionally armed police (!)  - why? Because it was in Withernsea

Armed police in Withernsea

First Tasering in Humberside (I think they mean by Humberside Police, as Humberside no longer exists, but that is another matter) in Withernsea

Withernsea

( I appreciate many of you won't get why this is so funny, but believe me, it is)

Been meaning to post these for a while.

Seen on Christmas Eve at 5.15pm - chap buying 8 plates, chargers and wine glasses!

Cooks Challenge. Christmas Day. Being sponsored by the 'Woolworth's Worth It Range' - cringe

Currently Mum works on the first floor (second floor for those of you across the pond) of her local department store  - a store that is a stand alone store. No surrounding shopping centre. Only way in is off the street.

Yesterday a customer approached Mum to ask where hot water bottles were. Mum answered that they were in the toiletries department  - on the ground floor (first floor for the transatlantic peeps). "Oh" said the customer. "Is there a downstairs?"

On the bus this morning:

"How far can I get for £1?"

On the bus this afternoon:

"My friend Jennifer, who I don't like..."

A mere glance at the signage around my home town will tell you that 'Half of all Britons struggle with the apostrophe' - although you might get the impression that it was more than half of them ;)

All from the same book - The Library at Night Alberto Manguel

Firstly a quote, allegedly from the library at Alexandria

The place of the cure of the soul

If I ever have a library/craft room, I am so making a sampler of this for the wall :)

Secondly, that Pepys made little 'high heels' for his smaller books, so that the tops were all level on his shelves!

Thirdly, that the LoC has subject headings which include:
- bat binding
- chickens in religion and folklore
- sewage: collected works

So, The Tudors. Loosely based on history, but enough to make a historian scream, suddenly had a fit of accuracy last night, as Henry instituted a court of Oyer and Terminer on Anne Boleyn. You have to wonder why they bothered ...

Yes, really ;)

Dear 'Vision' Opticians,

When the only reason you have my mobile phone number is because I went in to make an appointment, that the first 'reminder' text I have from you is one telling me I am overdue for an appointment, is not so very reassuring about your system.

No love,

Me

Last night while having a cuppa in Starbucks (in Borders) with my friend Lynn, we were browsing through some of the US craft magazines Lynn had brought up from downstairs.

One of the ads was for a financial company, offering to manage your money for the 3rd half of your life

Is it wrong to be amused that a book entitled 'Effective Time Management' is seriously overdue ...
