March films
Again, just 3 films this month:
Jesus Christ Superstar (1973 film version)
We watched this on TV over Easter, and I thought it compared well to the stage version I saw a couple of years ago. At first I found the strange combination of 70s/ancient settings to be a bit jarring, but it worked really well. Even Judas' red flares and the Israeli tanks!
My one real complaint was Ted Neeley, who played Jesus - he obviously was chosen more for looks than singing ability, as his voice was really to weak for the part, and in comparison with the rest of the cast. I am sorry, but I do think the lead actor in a musical should be able to sing - and if he can't recast or dub!
Stardust
Loved, loved this at the cinema, so of course I bought the DVD as soon as I had an HMV voucher. Still love it. Still can't remember what they have changed from the book - so expect to see that on the books list sometime this year.
I can't begin to list all the things I love about this, but the pinnacle has to be Robert De Niro. Just fantastic :D
Gosford Park
This is one of my favourite films, and I watch the DVD a lot. The cast is like a who's who of British acting talent and the costumes/setting is wonderful. The plot is excellent, with a fair amount of deception and desperation - and the final revalation really is one!
