Belly dance costume making workshops - home update

Last weekend I took the costume stuff home with me to use Mum's sewing machine  - which I must say behaved immpeccably for me.

If Mum ever does manage to move out of that house, I am going to miss the floor space for cutting out:



I didn't have quite enough of the purple fabric to make the godets too, so an emergency trip down to Boyes was called for (having already been in to get yet more beads for the beading workshop tomorrow).

After the cutting out was done, it was time to sew up. This took ages, as I am not very good, and lasted well into Sunday. I left my skirt unattended on the table while we had dinner. Kali decided that she approved of the fabric:



Being the heartless soul I am, I shifted her off pronto, and got the skirt finished. Mum put the elastic in the waist for me on Sunday afternoon, but due to either my bad cutting, pinning, and/or sewing, the bottoms of the panels aren't level, so I will have to ask someone to help me trim that this weekend.

Thanks Lynn. I haven't done any beading on the skirt, so I think I will unpick it and have another go at the sewing.

The fabric is stretchy fabric anyway, which doesn't make things easier for a beginner like me. But I will learn more by redoing it.
