I should have posted this a while ago
But what with one thing and another, it fell by the wayside.
Anyhow, I spent some of my Christmas money on a new spindle. A replica Viking/Anglo-Saxon spindle from The Mulberry Dyer - and some fibre (including some lovely BFL dyed with Madder). Although the site advertises soapstone and slate whorls, I have a pewter one, which I was initially a bit hesitant about - but after doing some research I am certain it will be fine for use on site. I have always been delighted by the spindle itself, as it is lovely.
The whorl is cast from an original, and the shaft based on one found at Coppergate!
It is a thing of beauty, and I am looking forward to spinning with it. Sadly my photos don't quite do it justice.
